A continuous poured foundation is commonly used for commercial buildings because of its strong base and longevity. With this method the concrete wall extends above the footings. Columns must be attached to the continuous poured foundation with special brackets. Continuous Poured Foundation is the best foundation option for insulation.
Poured-In-Place Foundation is a more expensive method that is commonly used in residential buildings. This method gets its name because wooden forms are on top of footings that shape the walls of the barn foundation. Concrete is poured into the wooden forms and once the concrete cures the molds are removed. Columns are attached to foundation with special brackets. Poured-in-Place Foundation Has additional support because it is built around steel rebar.
A Monolithic slab is a frost-proof foundation where the perimeter walls and floor are poured at the same time. The walls are 8 - 12 inches thick and the floor is 4-6 inches thick reinforced with rebar. A monolithic slab is commonly used for heavier equipment such as tractors, boats, RV's, etc.
