At Brinkmann Home Improvement we provide home owners and businesses with endless options for patterns and colors. When it comes to stamped concrete, process and attention to detail is important. The colors that make up the final stamped concrete color are the base color and the accent color. The two colors are added at different stages and can be done a few different ways.
The base color is the primary color and can dye the concrete by adding either:
Acid stain bonds chemically with the concrete to give color and is applied with a pump sprayer. With acid stain method you want to saturate the concrete without making puddles. A few coats may be necessary and you can brush the concrete after applied to work the stain into the concrete.
Color hardener is a combination of cement, sands, of course color. Color hardener is added to the concrete surface while the concrete is still wet but after you screed and float the concrete. Color hardener is a good option because the sand and cement add more strength and color intensity than other base color options.
Integral liquid or powder is another popular base color option because it is easier and always available. Integral liquid or powder base color is applied by mixing the color in with the concrete before it is poured.
Dry shake color hardener is applied onto the surface of fresh concrete as dry compound. Dry shake color hardener provides color, slip resistance, texture for the surface and durability. There are three groups of dry shake color hardeners:
The secondary color for stamped concrete is called the accent color and is used to enhance the texture of the concrete. The accent color is applied using color release in the concrete. The purpose of the color release is to further color the concrete and to prevent the concrete stamps from sticking. The two ways color release can be added are cast-on color release and spray-on color release.
These are the choice of integral colors we use for our decorative concrete. Your choice of color is mixed into the concrete to give you the look you are wanting!
These are the accent color choices we use for our decorative concrete. Accent colors are applied after the concrete has hardened to give an extra darker or lighter antique look to your stamped concrete!
